Use These Tips to Stay Afloat During a Flood

Floods have spread across the nation one city at a time…or should we say MANY cities at a time. Could the Kaysville area be next? In this country, flash floods are the most common severe weather disaster.
To help you and your family survive a flood, we’d like to share five flood preparedness tips in honor of FEMA’s National Preparedness Month (NPM).

  • #1. Create a Plan – It’s of the utmost importance to create a family emergency plan. Take some time to review it with your family. To help our clients with this step, Paul Davis has a Get a Plan form you can download at the link at the end of this post.
  • #2. Develop an Emergency Kit – Some items this should include are: a gallon of water per person, a first aid kit, singal whistle, battery-powered radio, moist towelettes, dust masks, garbage bags, pliers, and local maps.
  • #3. Clean Your Gutters – Clear debris from your gutters; to help water flow, it is vital that the drains are not clogged.
  • #4. Look at Flood Maps – Know your area and get proper insurance. It’s essential to know if you reside in a severe flood area. To view flood maps in Kaysville, click the link at the bottom of the page.
  • #5. Understand Flood Vocabulary – Do you know the difference between a flood watch and a flood warning? A flood watch means that there is a possibility that a flood will happen in your area. A flood warning means that a flood is headed your way and that you need to be prepared.

If a flood does happen in Kaysville, Paul Davis Restoration of Utah is there to help. We strive to help you clean up all flood damage and restore your home to its previous condition. We are here when disaster strikes 24/7.
