Pipes are seriously bursting everywhere in the country. Not even Gucci gowns and beautiful weather could keep the red carpet dry. It was a sunny day in L.A. for the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards, and just less than two hours before the A-listers arrived, a pipe burst, pouring 5,000 gallons of water onto the carpet where several journalists were set up with their cameras.
While most relate busted pipes with freezing cold temperatures, this incident was reportedly generated when a large video production light was set too close to a heat sensor, which then tripped the sprinkler system. Can happen anywhere. And does.
Water holds a unique component that causes it to expand as it freezes. This growth puts enormous pressure on its container, including metal or plastic pipes.
